On5-15-08, at 1537 hrs, the Yuma County
Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two vehicle collision
at South
Avenue 3E and East
County
15th
Street.
The vehicles involved are; a white 2007 Dodge 4-door
passenger car and a yellow MCAS Fire Emergency vehicle. The Dodge was
eastbound on County 15th
Street
when the driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the MCAS
Fire Rescue vehicle responding to an aircraft emergency. The MCAS Fire Rescue
vehicle was responding with light and sirens activated. The MCAS Fire
Emergency vehicle was southbound on Avenue 3E when it was
struck on the passenger side by the
Dodge.
The operator of the Dodge was transported to Yuma
Regional Medical Center, where he was later air lifted to Good
Samaritan Hospital, and is listed in critical condition. The operator and
passenger of the MCAS Emergency vehicle are
uninjured.
The Dodge was being operated by Mr. Jose Luis TORRES, a
20 year old male from Yuma, Az. The MCAS Fire
Emergency vehicle was being operated by Mr. Chad H. Ross, a 24
year old male.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation; however,
alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in
the collision.
